As donors, we have all uttered this phrase.  This roundtable seeks to challenge the misconception that philanthropy is solely about wealth. By exploring topics such as identity and Black philanthropy, the role of terminology and language play in philanthropy, and the perception of oneself as a philanthropist or someone who "gives back," we aim to shed light on the broader definition of giving in the Black community. We will delve into the multifaceted aspects of giving, including time, talent, and treasure, and emphasize how the community's presence and contributions extend beyond financial measures. Additionally, we will discuss philanthropic activism, the power of small donations, and the significance of everyday giving as an act of resistance, further dismantling the notion that philanthropy is confined to monetary wealth.
